A new publication by Cult photographer Teresa Neal is in the pipeline for release. ‘In The Eye of Noir’ focuses on the dark flip side of everyday life. This is a departure from her last book ‘Industrial Coastline’, a documentary collection of photography about economics, industry, and the environment. There is, however, a nod to noir often present in Neal’s work which has been brought into focus in this publication. The book is a strange, dark little gem offering a glimpse through the veil into an eccentric hinterland. Dystopian yes, but there is still light at the end of the dark tunnel.
Teresa’s image ‘Classical Bowl’ an atmospheric and profound piece of work is on show at the Nakashirke Gallery in Moscow which runs from 21 July – 7 August 2016. This is part of the Moscow Foto Awards. Mifa is a recent photographic awards programme introduced in 2014, attempting to bring international art to Russia. There is a diverse selection of work often with a social context.
What with the recent furore surrounding Russian athletes at Rio and beyond seeing some athletes being banned from the Olympics altogether from sporting events for their doping exploits it’s good to see that art still has the power to bring people together.
