- Bankroll
- The total money you have set aside for betting.
- Cash out
- The option to settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Corner kick betting
- A prop bet on how many corner kicks will be taken during the match.
- Cover
- When a team beats the point spread, they are said to have covered the line.
- Double chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible match outcomes, such as home win or draw.
- Futures
- A bet placed on an outcome that will be decided later, such as the winner of the World Cup.
- Goal line
- The total number of goals set for a match, similar to an over/under line.
- Half-time bet
- A wager placed on the result of only the first half of the match.
- In-play
- Another term for live betting; odds are offered while the match is happening.
- Juice
- The commission built into the odds that the sportsbook charges, often called the vig.
- Line movement
- The change in betting odds or point spreads over time.
- Live betting
- Placing bets after the match has started, with odds that update as the game progresses.
- Money line
- A bet on which team will win the match, with no adjustments to the score.
- Odds boost
- A promotion that increases the potential payout on a particular bet.
- Over/Under
- A wager on whether the total number of goals (or points) in the game will be higher or lower than a set number.
- Parlay
- A single bet that combines two or more selections and pays out only if every selection wins.
- Point spread
- A handicap given to the underdog to make the odds even, requiring the favorite to win by a set margin.
- Prop bet
- A side wager on a specific event inside a match, like which player scores first or how many yellow cards are shown.
- Push
- A tie result where the bet is refunded because the outcome matches the line exactly.
- Square
- A casual bettor who usually bets for fun and tends to be less successful.
- Stake
- The amount of money you put on a bet.
- Steam
- A sudden shift in odds caused by a large amount of money wagered on one side.
- Vig
- Short for vigorish, the built‑in fee a sportsbook takes on every bet.
